Effective project management is crucial to keep long-term projects on time and under budget. Statistics reveal that a whopping 70% of company projects fail – and many of these failures are costly and down to poor planning. That’s where project management software comes in.

Project management software helps make long-term projects more accessible and easier to track. You’ll know exactly how much you’re spending and how you’re progressing against targets. But with so many different tools out there, it can be difficult to know which one’s right for your business.

Tech.co have been tracking the best project management software tool for years. Read on to find out which tool can helps transform your business.

Don’t trust our word? Each software offers a free trial so you can try for yourself before you commit!

1. Monday.com: Top rated platfom

Monday.com is our #1 all-rounder software and one of the most popular tools out there. If you’re looking for excellent user experience, fast set up, and lots of intelligent features, it’s the perfect choice for your business.

It’s intuitive interface lets you accurately estimate timelines and improve workflow visibility – all while reducing communication friction to boost productivity. Plus, it’s hassle-free set up means all of your team will be up-to-speed in no time.

If you’re looking to cut costs and ensure all of your projects stay to budget, Monday.com is a game changer.

The one shortcoming of monday.com is its customer service. As easy-to-use as the product is, if you do encounter any roadblocks, the customer service offerings within monday.com aren’t great. They’re essentially email only, which means you won’t get an immediate answer for any time-sensitive issues.

2. Smartsheet: Best for spreadsheet lovers

Smartsheet is perfect for detail-orientated projects that require powerful analytics. Users can create tasks, sub-tasks, task dependencies, and attach files where needed. And projects can be viewed on a calendar or Kanban board view.

The customisable interface also uses common features like user-tagging using ‘@mentions’ and document highlighting. If you’re familiar with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, but need something more sophisticated, this is the best project management software for you.

Where Smartsheet falters is in both its pricing and customer service. While its pricing isn’t absurd, it’s objectively more expensive than its contemporaries, and can’t back up that difference in price with significantly more features.

3. Wrike: Best for user satisfaction

Looking for a project management software with great usability and user saisfaction? Then Wrike is the option for you.

Wrike successfully balances a simplistic UI with the perfect amount of features to meet all of your project management needs. It’s super quick to set up, and your team will soon be up-to-speed on creating workflows and Wrike’s clever integration with other tools. Some of Wrike’s highlights include its project creations, workflow features and its easy integration with other tools.

Wrike also possesses a strong selection of preset chart and widget options. Additional features in Wrike’s plans include task dependencies, Gantt charts, customizable calendars, and a Document Editor that tracks edit histories.

Sadly, Wrike falls short when it comes to customer service, as they only offer email services. This is fairly common for project management tools, but when paired with the higher-than-average price, it is slightly frustrating.

4. ClickUp: Excellent all-rounder

Clickups’ platform is designed with user feedback at its core. Its top scoring customer satisfaction scores are thanks to its ease of use and excellent data visualisation. Leading the way in terms of task management, ClickUp is a highly versatile project management tool with an easy set up that makes it one of the best tools on the market.

The interface’s hierarchy starts with teams, and includes spaces, projects, lists, and finally, tasks. This structure functions to keep different projects siloed from each other, reducing confusion while staying flexible enough to work in a range of different contexts.

The main place ClickUp could focus on improving is its collaboration features, as well as its post-project features.

5. Resource Guru: Best for creative agencies

Resource Guru is a resource scheduling tool which helps keep project on track. The UX is super user friendly manages to balance simplicity and detail, meaning teams can get up to speed with the prgramme quickly.

Resource Guru was formed in creative agencies, making it perfect for any company in the creative or marketing industries. But, the software is used by a whole range of companies, ranging from construction to IT.

Somewhere Resource Guru falls down against it’s competitors is it’s lack of customizatable features. They also don’t offer a free plan, but there is a free trial period.

6. Zoho: Best for affordability

CRM, HR services, project management — Zoho do it all, and they’re a market leader for a reason.

Zoho’s project management software is the most cost effective on our list. But it doesn’t cut corners and you’ll have everything you need to run great projects.

Platform features include time-tracking, resource management, as well as robust automation builders. Zoho also offers a strong free tier for smaller teams, or for new users to try out to get a feel for the software.

Zoho doesn’t score very highly on customer support as they can only be contacted via email. The UX also has a few kinks which make it slightly less user friendly than some of the other softwares on offer.
